martini_tim and I did a little shopping today. Tim saw some hard taco shells and commented how he really would like some.
"Like my mom used to make them."
We discussed how our mothers would make tacos for their families. Mine would take the regular corn tortillas and fry them in oil for about 15-20 seconds. She'd cook the beef with onion and garlic powder and then set up a little self-serve station with lettuce, cheese, sour cream, different salsas, tomatoes, and corn. Then we'd take the tortillas and make our tacos.
Even now, we kids bug her about making tacos. 'Cause, of course, only your mom can make them the right way.
My sister, ever the weirdo, would take the remnants of each taco (sour cream, salsa, etc.) and mix it all together into a concoction she called "Magnificent Mush."
It's amazing all the things you forget (or possibly block out) that come back in weird and random ways... Mostly I don't really miss my childhood. Sometimes I do.
Now is one of those times.

We made a trip to SLC this weekend to visit my mom. She's looking great! It felt so good to see her and she seems to be in better health now than she's been in a few years.

It made me so happy to see her. I'm glad I made the trip.

OMG YUM!!!

As is the tradition here in the Salt Lakes, we went to Blue Plate and I ate jelly. It's not like I want to do it any more, it's more of a compulsion.
Later, Tim blinded me. You can see evidence of it on my Flickr. There is no explanation for it. I think he just got "the rage" or something.
It was all too traumatic.
I have to go lie down now.

It's astounding to me that it's August already. On the 31st will be my one-year anniversary with my employer.
A year has passed in what feels like, simultaneously, a couple of weeks and an eternity. Many thanks to all the friends that made this a fantastic year, in spite of all the problems that floated our way. And in the grand scheme of things, they weren't nearly as bad as they could have been. So yay for that!

I'm now situated in my new office. One of the new guys started yesterday and more start next week. Two of them will be working with me on a new area of the game. An area I am in charge of. The next few months are going to be so much fun and very stressful. I can't wait.
And since kingfuraday's birthday is today, I declare all the shit that has transpired the last few months is officially over and the rest of the year will rock the socks off the block. Good choice of a day to be birthed, Brian!

As you all know, we'll be at Comicon this weekend. I'm hoping to meet many of you in person. (At least the geeks among you who will be there.)
I've screened comments. If you'll be there, gimme your contact info (email, mobile, etc.), so we can see if meeting up in nerdvana will be possible.
Thanks everso!

| I made spaghetti! |
[Jul. 11th, 2008|10:33 pm] |
And when I say I made spaghetti, I mean from scratch!
And homemade pasta sauce. I was very domestic. It was delicious.
I danced a lot.
I kept looking around the kitchen talking to people who weren't there - saying things like, "This is so cool!" "Look at it! It's getting flatter!" "OMGLOOK! IT'S SPAGHETTI!"
Sadly (or maybe fortunately), no one responded. So I finished making it, put the sauce on it, ate it, and then danced around a little more because I had just made pasta.
Damn, but I love cooking.

| For baby? Not bloody likely |
[Jul. 2nd, 2008|05:42 pm] |
Ummmm...
So, what the hell is this?
It starts out semi-ok -
"Encourages development of communication through stimulation of the lips and tongue when baby explores the textures and shapes by mouth. Control of the lips and tongue is essential to the development of sound, and later, speech. For ages birth +."
Kinda creepy. Not sure how you feel about it when you read it, but it's clinical enough to pass. But then the directions. Who wrote this? And who were they writing it for?
"Directions Refrigerate this colorful butterfly before you give it to me. Cool only in a domestic refrigerator; do not place in the freezer compartment. Talk to me about this little butterfly. Tell me that the red wing is soft and nubby, and the purple wing is hard with ridges and bumps. I love to hear your voice. When I put this toy in my mouth, I feel my lips and tongue against it. This helps me learn how my mouth works and will help me when I begin to make sounds of my own. To Clean: wash in top rack of dishwasher. Cool completely."
I'm not entirely convinced these are directions for the use of a teething ring.
I'm just saying...

| I can has sammiches? |
[Jul. 2nd, 2008|01:57 pm] |
Tim and I go home almost every day for lunch (because it's about 30 seconds (literally) from work). First we watched all seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and I will tell you all - those of you who didn't like one season or another, watch them again on DVD. When you don't have to wait a month or two in between episodes, the story flows so much better), and now we're in the fourth season of Babylon 5.
Folks, as horrid as season 1 is, season 4 is worth watching about twenty helpings of season 1. Seasons 2 and 3 were good and as things are unfolding now, it's astounding how much was laid out in the first 3 for things to happen here. And it wasn't until this season that something happening actually made me go, 'Woah - I didn't expect that.' I always avoided Babylon 5 because I saw it as another version of Deep Space 9. (And no - you will not be able to argue that DS9 was a good show. You will lose. It sucked. It was boring. They never did anything. ANYTHING. Even when they did things, they didn't do anything. But I digress...) Even for people who aren't fans of science fiction, I'd say give it a chance. They aren't afraid of killing people, making non-evil characters do some not-so-nice things, and really flesh out the cast.
Yes, it has its faults, but I'm willing to forgive them for a really interesting, mostly-well-thought-out four-year story arc.
I had other things to say, but I have forgotten. I'm sure I'll remember soon enough.

| And a follow up |
[Jun. 18th, 2008|09:51 am] |
Now it seems that whenever I say something to the coworker who was trying to find a picture of her dad for me, her response is:
"Whatever... you think my dad is hot."
Awesome.

| To continue... |
[Jun. 17th, 2008|06:07 pm] |
The conversation in my previous post just escalated to the point where a coworker was looking on her iPhone for a picture of her father to show me and the following exchange:
"I have to find a picture so Robert can validate the attractiveness of my daddy."
"And then maybe he can be Robert's daddy, too."
Again, I love my job.

| The company I keep... |
[Jun. 17th, 2008|02:54 pm] |
My supervisor took us to lunch today to thank us for the great job we've been doing at work. While sitting there, watching all the perky(-breasted) young women walk by, I lamented, "Where are all the hot guys?"
"Well," replied one of my coworkers, "what constitutes a hot guy?" I explained what I meant, gave him examples, discussed what physical characteristics caught my eye, etc.
For the rest of the time we were out, he would pick out guys he thought I would go for and I would tell him if he was right or wrong and what was off if it wasn't quite right.
Driving back he would say, "Oh!" every time we passed a car with a guy in it and then sigh, "Oh..." when it wasn't someone he could point out to me. Passing through an intersection, he spun around in his seat and looked in all directions.
"Those people are all ugly!" he declared. "This is a worthless intersection! Ugly, ugly men and pointless women!"
I kind of love my job sometimes.
In other news, I'm listening to the soundtrack to Camp Rock. I'm withholding judgment until I see the movie.

[May. 11th, 2008|06:01 pm] |
I went to the gym today.
I used the treadmill. Just a simple cardio day.
Burned about 400 calories.
A Whatchamacallit has 200 calories.
I think I earned it.
And yes, I called my mom today. She's well and I'm still her favorite.

So, it seems that jpinsd was in a band. And they made a song. And if you do the little clickyclicky on his name there, it'll take you over to him (which you should do anyway since his is teh rockxin).
Here is a direct link to the post about it and in that post is a link to the song.
Here we are dancing to the song.

Now it's your turn! Everyone post a picture of yourself (or selves) dancing to "Generic White" by A Method of Danse!
